Man Down, Three Blocks Away

Man Down, Three Blocks Away

In September 2018, Mechanicsburg, Iowa Fire and Ambulance was dispatched to a man down, three and a half blocks from the fire station.

Crews arrived at the scene where an off-duty firefighter was already performing CPR on the patient- a pulseless, breathless, 48-year-old man.

The first responders used their newly granted manual heart monitor & defibrillator to evaluate the patient and deliver shocks, 14 in total, on the way to the hospital.

This man is alive today, all thanks to local first responders and the equipment on-hand at his local fire station.
