Rookie Police Officer Helps Save a Life

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grants are responsible for a growing number of lifesaving stories, including the remarkable story of Officer Schmittou. During his first day on duty with Northville Township Police Department in Northville, MI, this rookie officer used the department’s awarded automated external defibrillator (AED) to save a life.

Officer Schmittou responded to a 911 call reporting a man was in cardiac arrest. It was the first call of his career. When Schmittou and his team reached the man, they took over giving chest compressions and used the donated AED to shock the man, saving his life.

“I think it’s something I will always remember, obviously, being that it was my first run, but also that it had such a great result,” Schmittou said. “I hope to have many more results like this.”

Another life saved, thanks to the support of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation donors!
