Eloy Fire District in Arizona has used their awarded LUCAS chest compression device for many cardiac arrest emergencies over the past few years, but one incident stands out.
Upon arrival to the scene of an emergency, paramedics found a man unresponsive and without a pulse. They immediately put their LUCAS device to use and were able to resuscitate him before transporting him to a nearby trauma center for emergency surgery. The doctors at the trauma center directly credited the patient’s survival to the quick deployment and high-quality chest compressions from this lifesaving equipment. Since then, the patient has been discharged from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
“We cannot place a value on the life that was saved or on the countless others that will be affected in the future because of the grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation,” said Assistant Chief Robert Maestas, Eloy Fire District. This amazing gift will greatly help our organization and our community.”
A special thank you to our partners at Arizona Public Service (APS) who made this grant award possible. Since 2014, Arizona Public Service has contributed $400,000 to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with funds benefiting Arizona first responders throughout APS service area.
